Transfer News: PSG preparing second bid for Manchester United target Milan Skriniar

According to popular Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, PSG are preparing a second bid worth €60m plus add-ons for Manchester United centre-back target Milan Skriniar from Inter Milan. According to the Sun, the Red Devils are one of the clubs keen on the Slovakian defender.

Skriniar joined Inter from Sampdoria in 2017 and has since then gone on to establish himself as one of the best centre-backs in Serie A. A rock at the back for the Nerazzurri for many years to come, the Slovakian defender has great quality.

The 27-year-old centre-back has had yet another great season in Simone Inzaghi’s team this season as they ran close to securing their second Scudetto on a bounce. The talented defender played 48 times for the Italian giants this season scoring four goals across all competitions.

Manchester United are keen on signing the talented centre-back this summer but PSG are already ahead in the race having seen their opening bid rejected and are set to return with a new improved second bid.

Pay for quality?

The fact that Manchester United need improvements in the backline is no secret, and Skriniar presents them as an interesting option.

Raphael Varane is a great defender and offers us a world-class option in the back line but the same cannot be said about his partners. Harry Maguire has become somewhat of a laughing stock for rival fans ever since his big-money move from Leicester City.

Victor Lindelof has quality, no doubt. However, the Swede struggles to showcase it on a consistent basis and often tends to have a mistake in him. The lesser said about Phil Jones and Eric Bailly, the better.

Milan Skriniar at 27 could be the ideal pairing with Varane at Old Trafford. However, with a contract that expires next summer, the kind of fee that Inter are asking for seems ridiculous. Manchester United have a call to make.

Do they choose to pay for quality and match PSG’s offer of €60m plus add-ons, or do they pull out considering that it may be too huge a sum for a player on an expiring contract? That is a call for the decision-makers to make.

But given his experience, age profile, and quality, there won’t be a lot of better defenders available if we do miss out on the Inter star.
