Manchester United and Nottingham Forest near Dean Henderson agreement with deal in final stages
According to Florian Plettenberg of Sky Sports on Twitter, Manchester United and Nottingham Forest are close to reaching an agreement for the potential move of Dean Henderson, with a deal being in the final stages right now. It appears that Erik ten Hag’s arrival has not turned things in his favour despite being technically suited to the boss’ style of play.
Henderson is in line to join Forest on a one-year loan move, although there is a lack of clarity over the inclusion of a buy option as of now. Despite that, Man United are preparing the paperwork at this point, with the deal getting closer to being completed soon enough.
That being said, discussions are still taking place between both clubs regarding the optional clause’s addition in this deal. Fabrizio Romano via Florian Plettenberg revealed that the buy option would be in the region of £20million for Henderson’s signature.
Wise to let Henderson leave?
It looks like Henderson would probably be departing Old Trafford in this summer transfer window. Some supporters had expected him to be given the nod by ten Hag due to his superior overall ability to David de Gea, but that seems not to be the case under the current circumstances.
If the Red Devils are to let Henderson leave, then it would be wise not to include the optional clause as we could be losing a top-quality shot-stopper with de Gea being in the twilight of his playing career. Then again, we are going through a delicate situation with a desperate need to rebuild the squad.
As such, earning money through sales is quite important to help in that regard, and Henderson’s potential permanent departure could help in that regard. Furthermore, De Gea is only 31 years of age, and shot-stoppers usually have a longer playing career than outfield players.
As such, it would not be surprising to see the Manchester board agreeing to the inclusion of a buy clause, although it would be best if that fee is higher for someone like Henderson. That would at least open the possibility of renegotiation in the future, unlike the current situation when the Reds can get him on a cut-price deal.
There is no doubt that the England international is a quality goalkeeper, but his future could be away from the Theatre of Dreams after all. Now, if the 25-year-old ace is going to depart anyway, the Mancunians must do their best to find the right replacement this summer.

Tom Heaton is an option, but one could argue that we should look to get a better keeper into the team. Daniel Bachmann is touted as a replacement, plus he would be quite cheap as well, costing just between £2million and £4million. Whether he would join us or not remains to be seen.
