Manchester United are amongst the clubs interested in signing Inter Milan centre-back Milan Skriniar on a free transfer, according to Calciomercato (h/t Express).

The Slovakia international’s current contract with the Nerazzurri expires at the end of the season. And the 27-year-old will then be free to join any club. However, the Serie A giants are keen on securing the defender’s future with a new deal.

United let go of Eric Bailly in the recent transfer window. The Ivory Coast international joined Olympique Marseille. However, we did sign Lisandro Martinez to bolster the backline.

The Argentine made his way to Manchester from Ajax and reunited with Erik ten Hag in Manchester. Since then, the centre-back has been a critical member of the team.

Martinez has gone from strength to strength since the disappointing start to the 2022/23 campaign. And the Argentine’s partnership with Raphael Varane has been fruitful for the Red Devils.

Other options in the squad include Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof. While our captain has lost his place in the starting lineup, the Sweden international was on the sidelines for the opening games of the season.

Ten Hag has preferred the partnership of Martinez and Varane. And this has led to Maguire and Lindelof seemingly falling out of favour and spending the majority of their time on the bench.

Skriniar is one of the defenders in Italy at the moment. The 27-year-old signed for Inter in the summer of 2017 and has since been a regular for them. He also helped the Serie A giants lift the Scudetto in the 2020/21 campaign.

Inter have impressed many with their Champions League run this season. And Skriniar has been pivotal for them. However, it remains to be seen whether the Slovak runs down his contract and leaves the Nerazzurri in 2023.
