Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag feels he was right in his assessment of the Premier League being the best
Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has admitted that he was right in his assessment of considering the Premier League as the best. The Dutch manager had already come to that conclusion during his Ajax days.
Ten Hag famously came up against Tottenham Hotspur in the Champions League semi-final in the 2018/19 season. And Spurs made a thrilling comeback against De Godenzonen, winning on away goals.
And speaking to Amazon Prime (h/t Manchester Evening News) ahead of United vs Tottenham, Ten Hag revealed he was not surprised by the quality of the PL. The Dutch manager termed the English top flight the best league.
“I have not had any surprises since coming here. When I have played sides from the league with Ajax in the Champions League, you need to analyse it and make your conclusions. And what I thought before it, it has been proven.
“The Premier League is the best league in the world with the best managers and the best players, and if you want to survive here, you have to be good.”
Ten Hag got the better of the North London side on 19 October at Old Trafford. United beat Tottenham 2-0. And the Red Devils dominated Antonio Conte’s team for most of the proceedings.
The former Ajax head coach’s reign in the Old Trafford dugout did not get off to the best of starts. United lost against Brighton & Hove Albion and Brentford in the first two games of the campaign.
Fortunately, the Red Devils managed to turn things around quickly. The Dutch manager made some big changes after the 4-0 loss at the Gtech Community Stadium. And they paid off.
United went on a four-game win streak in the league, beating the likes of Liverpool and Arsenal. However, the Manchester City game did halt our run of victories.
Thankfully, the Old Trafford side have managed to get back up. And the performance against Tottenham was one of our best this season.
