Manchester United would want ‘some kind of return’ on their initial investment in Donny van de Beek if they were to part ways with him, according to ESPN (h/t Express).

The 25-year-old signed for the Red Devils in the summer of 2020 from Ajax. United paid £40million to the Amsterdam-based club to acquire his services.

However, Van de Beek has not enjoyed a fruitful spell until now in Manchester. Thus, there is uncertainty around the Holland international’s future at the club, with Leicester City interested.

Brendan Rodgers’ team are currently at the bottom of the Premier League table. The Foxes have not enjoyed a good season. And it remains to be seen whether they opt to pursue Van de Beek.

The 25-year-old is injured at the moment and has been on the sidelines for some time now. However, the Holland international had only managed to come on as a substitute under Erik ten Hag in the final minutes of games when he was fit.

With the arrival of the former Ajax head coach, fans hoped Van de Beek’s reunion with Ten Hag would change his fortunes. But unfortunately, the 25-year-old has not been able to play much.

United signed Christina Eriksen and Casemiro in the recent transfer window. The Denmark international has been a pivotal member of the starting XI under the Dutch manager. On the other hand, the Brazilian seems to be slowly finding his feet in Manchester.

Casemiro was being kept out of the squad by Scott McTominay in the last few weeks. The Scotland international started the Manchester derby ahead of the former Real Madrid star.

The Brazilian got his first Premier League start against Everton and put in a Man of the Match performance. Bruno Fernandes also occupies the number 10 position in the side.

Thus, competition to get into the starting lineup is high for Van de Beek. And it would evidently be best for the 25-year-old to go to a team that can offer him regular football.
