Gilberto Silva hopes to see Casemiro and Fred play together at Manchester United

Brazil legend Gilberto Silva has urged Manchester United to pair Casemiro and Fred more often in the middle of the park. The ex-Arsenal star wants to see the partnership between the two Brazilians shine for the Red Devils as it does with the national team.

Casemiro signed for United in the recent transfer window from Real Madrid. The 30-year-old has, over the years, built the reputation of being one of the best defensive midfielders in world football.

Speaking to Mirror Football, Silva, who won the 2002 World Cup with A Selecao, hopes that Casemiro and Fred succeed at United as they have with Brazil.

“He [Casemiro] can contribute a lot.

“I really want to see him as he has done in the national team with Fred. I hope the combination will be great. If both of them play like they do in the national team with Manchester United, [they’ll do well].”

The Brazilian duo have not been afforded many starts in the Premier League by the Dutch manager. Ten Hag has put his faith in other options as the Red Devils found a small period of success with a relatively unchanged team.

Fred started for United in the opening two fixtures of the season. However, the 29-year-old was poor as the Old Trafford side lost to Brighton & Hove Albion and Brentford.

Since the 4-0 loss at the Gtech Community Stadium, Fred has only made appearances off the bench for United. The Brazilian has seemingly fallen down the pecking order.

Casemiro, on the other hand, started his first game in the English top flight in the game against Everton on 9 October. While the 30-year-old had a shaky start, he ended up taking the Man of the Match award home.

However, Ten Hag has preferred Scott McTominay over Casemiro in the PL prior to the game at Goodison. Christina Eriksen and Bruno Fernandes are the other names that have been a constant in the Dutch manager’s side.

Fred and Casemiro played together a lot in last year’s Copa America as Brazil made it to the final. Unfortunately, they fell short as Argentina lifted the trophy. It remains to be seen whether Ten Hag pairs them more often in Manchester.
