Erik ten Hag will not be thrown under the bus by Manchester United players if season goes poorly
Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag will not be thrown under the bus by the players if the season goes poorly. Instead, the higher-ups will be in the firing line if anything goes wry.
The Dutch manager left his post at Ajax at the end of the previous campaign and made his way to the Old Trafford dugout. The new gaffer is known for his high-pressing, possession-based style of play. And he will evidently need time to implement those ideas.
Speaking on The Overlap on YouTube, The Athletic’s David Ornstein claimed United’s dressing room has decided they will not turn on Ten Hag when the going gets tough.
“I was being told by people close to the club [#mufc] and the first team that if the players are going to turn on anyone this time, it’s not going to be the manager.
“They’re going to go above and they’re going to throw executives under the bus – I don’t know – but not Ten Hag.”
In the previous campaign, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer went off to a poor start. And it seemed the team was not playing for him. And eventually, the Norwegian was relieved of his duties at United.
The Manchester-based club then turned to Ralf Rangnick to take charge on an interim basis. The German head coach also failed to turn things around at the club.
Ten Hag was chosen as the successor for the 2022/23 season. The Dutch manager quickly found himself in trouble at United. The former Ajax head coach lost his first two competitive games in charge of the Red Devils.
However, Ten Hag has managed to turn things around at United. The gaffer made some big changes after the 4-0 loss to Brentford. Cristiano Ronaldo and Harry Maguire, two high-profile stars, have not started a game in the Premier League since the defeat at the Gtech Community Stadium.
United have subsequently reacted in an overall positive manner. We went on a four-game winning run in the league before the Manchester derby, where we lost 6-3. And the Red Devils have bounced back with a 2-1 victory over Everton.

Ten Hag has come into a new league and country. And United have not been in their best period either since Sir Alex Ferguson’s departure. It remains to be seen whether the Dutch manager will be able to awaken the sleeping giant in red.
