Barcelona to reconsider Frenkie de Jong stance if Manchester United revisit interest in coming transfer windows
Joan Laporta and Xavi could reconsider selling Barcelona star Frenkie de Jong in the coming transfer windows if Manchester United revisit their interest, according to Sport (h/t Express).
The president and manager of the Blaugrana do not want to part ways with the 25-year-old. However, they may change their minds if the Red Devils come back for the Holland international.
De Jong was Erik ten Hag’s top target in the recent transfer window. However, the midfielder was not keen on moving away from Camp Nou. But the door for a possible reunion between the Dutch manager and the 25-year-old still remains open.
De Jong and Ten Hag enjoyed a few years together at Ajax before the midfielder joined Barcelona in the summer of 2019. Since then, the Holland international has been one of the best players for the Spanish side.
However, since the arrival of Xavi, De Jong has seemingly lost some of his prominence in the side. The former Spain international evidently prefers to play a midfield trio of Sergio Busquests, Gavi and Pedri.
De Jong has started in four of the nine games he has played in all competitions for the Catalan giants in the 2022/23 campaign. It remains to be seen whether Xavi uses the 25-year-old more often over the course of the season.
United ended up signing two midfielders in the recent transfer window. Christian Eriksen arrived as a free agent. The Denmark international has since been a key player for the new gaffer.
Casemiro also made his way to Manchester from Real Madrid. The Brazilian started his first Premier League game against Everton on 9 October and was awarded the Man of the Match award.

De Jong is a quality player with lots to offer. Fans who have seen the 25-year-old play know he is calm in possession and capable of progressing with the ball. But will United be able to entice the midfielder in the future? Only time will tell.
