Rio Ferdinand praises intelligent Manchester United midfielder Casemiro after game against Everton
Manchester United icon Rio Ferdinand has hailed Casemiro for his performance against Everton at Goodison Park. The Red Devils won 2-1 in a tight Premier League affair on 9 October.
The Brazilian was handed his first start in the English top flight by Erik ten Hag. After a shaky start, the 30-year-old found his feet in the middle of the park.
Casemiro picked up the Man of The Match after his display at Goodison. Speaking on BT Sport after the fixture via Metro, the former United defender hailed the Brazilian for what he has done in football. Ferdinand defended the 30-year-old’s performance.
“Casemiro has the experience. He’s won multiple Champions Leagues, he understands football.
“You don’t play at that level [at Real Madrid] without having a level of intelligence. Yes he started poorly, he gave the ball away for the goal, but as the manager said he grew into the game.”
The former England international donned the red shirt for 12 years during his playing career. And Ferdinand had the likes of Roy Keane and Michael Carrick screening the backline in his time with the Manchester-based club.
Casemiro made his name with Real Madrid playing in the number six position. Fans who have seen him play know that the Brazilian is not the most technically gifted on the ball. However, the 30-year-old knows how to halt opposition attacks.
Winning multiple trophies in Spain, Casemiro built a pedigree of being a disruptor in the middle of the park. The 30-year-old was one of the best defensive midfielders during his stint with Los Blancos.
Since arriving in Manchester, Casemiro has mostly come off the bench. Erik ten Hag is seemingly trying to incorporate the Brazilian slowly into the team.
Against Everton, Casemiro was at fault for giving the ball away, which resulted in Frank Lampard’s side scoring through an Alex Iwobi strike in the fifth minute.

However, the Brazilian redeemed himself, breaking up play and providing Cristiano Ronaldo with the assist to give United the lead. The former Madrid teammates combined to give the 37-year-old his 700th club career goal.
Hopefully, Casemiro will manage to settle into the team quickly. The 30-year-old’s defensive nous in the engine room is an asset for the Red Devils.
