Erik ten Hag wants Donny van de Beek to get fit and fight for his position at Manchester United
Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has given Donny van de Beek hope of getting his chances with the Red Devils. The Dutch manager wants the Holland international to get fit and fight for his place at the Old Trafford side.
Van de Beek has found it hard at United since his signing from Ajax in 2020. The 25-year-old has not started under Ten Hag this season. However, he has been sidelined due to a muscular injury for over a month.
Speaking to the media via Manchester Evening News, Ten Hag was happy with Van de Beek’s early season performances. However, the Dutch manager hopes the midfielder gets back his fitness soon.

“When he came on against Brighton as a sub he did very well but you have to be available. And if you are not available you cannot get a place in the first XI and so now he has to make sure he gets fit and fights for his position.”
Van de Beek played under Ten Hag in Amsterdam. The duo found success together. The 25-year-old was a pivotal member of the Dutch manager’s Ajax side that made it to the Champions League semi-final in the 2018/19 season.
The midfielder’s debut campaign at United was decent. Van de Beek got game time. However, the 25-year-old did not start a lot of games.
Van de Beek struggled to get on the pitch in his second season. The Holland international did not start a single game for the Red Devils. And the 25-year-old subsequently went on loan to Everton in January.

While Van de Beek started to get time under Frank Lampard, the 25-year-old injured himself midway through his loan spell.
The Holland international had a full pre-season with United under the new gaffer. However, with the additions of Christian Eriksen and Casemiro, competition to get a place in the middle of the park has evidently increased.
