Diogo Dalot substitution during Manchester United vs Charlton Athletic a “precaution” amidst injury concern
Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has given an injury update on Diogo Dalot and Donny van de Beek after the win over Charlton Athletic in the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup.
The Portugal international came off in the first half after starting against the League One outfit on Tuesday (10 January) at Old Trafford. The Red Devils secured a comfortable 3-0 victory.
On the other hand, the former Ajax star has been on the sidelines since he suffered a knock against AFC Bournemouth in our last Premier League match.
Speaking to the media (h/t Manchester Evening News) after the win over the Addicks, Ten Hag revealed that he was unsure about the extent of the injuries both players have suffered. However, Dalot’s substitution was a cautious measure.
“Both: I can’t tell that much. We have seen Diogo come off but it was a precaution and we have to see how it develops in the coming hours and make a clear decision.
“Donny, we are doing some final investigations and then when we have that we will update you.”
The former FC Porto star has been unavailable for most of the matches since the end of the 2022 World Cup. However, the Portugal international started the game against Everton in the FA Cup.
Unfortunately, the 23-year-old had to be withdrawn in the 34th minute against Charlton. But the right-back was seen walking down the tunnel unaided.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka replaced Dalot. The former Crystal Palace star has fallen down the pecking order this season in light of the Portuguese star’s form. However, in recent fixtures, the England U21 international has put in some decent displays.
As for Van de Beek, the Holland international has been unlucky with injuries in the current campaign. The 25-year-old had gotten a rare start against Bournemouth, but he could not complete the match.

Since then, the Holland international has missed both the cup games. Initially, at the start of the campaign, the former Ajax star was sidelined as well and could not break into Ten Hag’s plans.
We will face Manchester City next in the league. While the Dutch manager has done well in recent months, Pep Guardiola’s team will evidently be a tough test for us. Hopefully, Dalot will be available to face the Sky Blues.
