Donny van de Beek out for the rest of the season with injury for Manchester United

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has confirmed that Donny van de Beek will be out for the rest of the season after his knee injury.

The Holland international suffered a knock in the Red Devils’ previous Premier League game against Bournemouth. At around the 40-minute mark at Old Trafford, the 25-year-old went down after Marco Sanesi’s challenge.

Subsequently, the former Ajax midfielder was replaced by Alejandro Garnacho just before halftime. In the end, we won the fixture 3-0.

Speaking to the media via Manchester Evening News, Ten Hag revealed the severity of Van de Beek’s injury. The Dutch manager was optimistic about the midfielder’s return in the summer of 2023 for pre-season.

“Yes, it is his knee. On the long-term, it is looking really good, he will be back for the start of pre-season. The rest of the season he is out.”

The Holland international was handed a rare start against the Cherries. During the 25-year-old’s time on the pitch, he looked decent. Unfortunately, what was supposed to be a pleasant moment ended on a sour note.

Van de Beek signed United in the summer of 2020 from Ajax. At the Amsterdam-based club, the midfielder had developed into a quality player under Ten Hag.

However, his time in Manchester has been underwhelming. The Holland international has hardly started any matches for the Red Devils over the years.

Unfortunately, injuries have not helped his cause either. In the previous campaign, the 25-year-old joined Everton on loan in January. But after a few starts under Frank Lampard, he was sidelined for most of the season.

With the Dutch manager in the Old Trafford side’s dugout, Van de Beek was seemingly supposed to have a change in his fortunes at the club. However, once again, fitness issues have plagued the midfielder. Now, after some tumultuous years at United, it remains to be seen what the future holds for the 25-year-old.
