Napoli centre-back Kim Min-jae eyed by Manchester United for the January transfer window
Manchester United are set to hold talks with Napoli for South Korean centre-back Kim Min-jae, according to CNN Turkey (h/t The Sun). The Red Devils are looking to sign the 25-year-old in the January transfer window.
Min-jae joined the Serie A outfit in the recent transfer window. The Italian giants paid Turkish club Fenerbahce £16 million to acquire the South Korean’s services.
United want to trigger Min-jae’s release clause, which stands at £44 million. However, the Red Devils will be unable to do so in the winter market. Thus, the Old Trafford side will have to wait or find another way.
Tottenham Hotspur and Juventus have an eye on the South Korean centre-back in the summer of 2022. However, the 25-year-old moved to Napoli instead.
With Gli Azzurri, Min-jae has gotten off to an impressive start in the 2022/23 campaign. The South Korean has started all but one fixture for Luciano Spalletti in all competitions.
Napoli sit top of the Serie A table after seven games. The Italians also lead the way in their Champions League group, beating Liverpool and Rangers.
United signed a centre-back in the recent transfer window. The Red Devils got Lisandro Martinez from Ajax. And the Argentine has made an immediate impact, having reunited with Erik ten Hag in Manchester.
Raphael Varane has partnered with Martinez in the backline. The Dutch manager seems to fancy the duo. And subsequently, the likes of Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof have found themselves on the bench. It remains to be seen whether they will look for a move elsewhere for more game time.
