Christian Eriksen termed ‘perfect example’ in midfield by Manchester United legend Paul Scholes

Manchester United legend Paul Scholes chose Christian Eriksen as the ‘perfect example’ when asked about what he looks for in a midfielder. The ex-Red Devil calls the Danish national a ‘clever player’.

Eriksen joined United on a free transfer in the summer of 2022. The 30-year-old had a fruitful short spell at Brentford before moving to the Old Trafford side.

Speaking to Gary Nevill on The Overlap YouTube Channel, the 47-year-old, who was part of United’s engine room for almost 19 years, likes the Denmark international. Scholes praised Eriksen for his nous in the middle of the park.

“Intelligence…clever players with a brain. [Eriksen] is a perfect example of a player who plays with intelligence. He’s a clever player, he knows where he is on the pitch and knows where others are on the pitch.”

United made six signings in the recent transfer window. The Red Devils added two midfielders to the squad. And the Denmark international has been a surprise package for the fans.

While United spent a lot of money on other names to bolster Ten Hag’s squad, Eriksen has performed above expectations. Supporters feel the 30-year-old has been the best addition to the team.

It seemingly took some time for Eriksen to settle into the side. The Dutch manager opted to hand the Denmark international his debut as the centre-forward in the first game of the campaign against Brighton & Hove Albion. However, Eriksen looked out of place against the Seagulls. United lost the game 2-1.

In the second fixture against Brentford, Ten Hag deployed Eriksen in a much deeper role in the engine room. The 30-year-old played as a pivot. However, he did not look comfortable.

Since then, Eriksen has played in the number eight position. He has thrived in the box-to-box role. The Denmark international has started every game under the Dutch manager.

Eriksen has brought creativity and quality to the United midfield. With Paul Pogba leaving the club at the end of last season, the 30-year-old has not let fans feel the loss of flair in the middle of the park. Hopefully, the Danish national can continue performing for the Red Devils throughout the campaign.
