Manchester United prepared to open contract talks with Marcus Rashford on a five-year deal
Marcus Rashford has a season left on his contract and Manchester United are eager to extend the England international’s stay at Old Trafford with a five-year deal in mind, according to The Sun.
United do have the option to extend his current deal for another season. However, the Red Devils are keen to tie the 24-year-old down for longer with interest from elsewhere.
Paris-Saint Germain were linked with Rashford this summer. The 24-year-old was not having the best of times on the pitch with the Manchester-based club. However, Erik ten Hag had faith in the forward.
The England international’s place in the national side has been in doubt. Since the Euro 2020 final, Rashford’s performances have not been up to the mark. And his representatives had a meeting with the Ligue 1 champions as the 24-year-old was considering a fresh start.
In the previous campaign, Rashford had one of his worst seasons in a red shirt. The 24-year-old featured 32 times for the Red Devils in all competitions, scoring five goals and providing two assists.
Pre-season under the new manager showed encouraging signs. Our forward line seemed to be functioning much better than in the previous campaign. The attacking options who had underperformed last season looked back to their usual selves.
However, Ten Hag’s reign did not get off to the best of starts. None of our players scored a goal in the first two fixtures against Brighton & Hove Albion and Brentford. And we sat at the bottom of the table after losing both matches.
United faced Liverpool at Old Trafford in the Dutch manager’s third game in charge. And Jadon Sancho and Rashford each found the net and ensured we took the three points. Since then, the side have not looked back.
