Thomas Tuchel parted ways with Chelsea and a reason for the German manager’s relationship with Todd Boehly breaking down was the refusal to sign Cristiano Ronaldo from Manchester United, according to BILD Sport’s Christian Falk on Twitter.

The Blues owner wanted to get the Portuguese to Stamford Bridge during the transfer window. However, Tuchel was not keen on having the 37-year-old in his side.

The former Chelsea manager was adamant about not having Ronaldo at the club. Tuchel felt the Portugueses’ arrival would not bode well for the mood in the dressing room.

Ronaldo seemingly wanted a move away from the Red Devils this summer. The five-time Ballon d’Or winner missed most of pre-season under Erik ten Hag. The 37-year-old was angling for a move away from Manchester and Chelsea were apparently one of his options.

The Portugal international finished the previous campaign as United’s top goalscorer. Ronaldo was one of the few players to live up to fans’ expectations. The other forwards in the squad failed to make an impact.

United ended up finishing out of the top four last season. The Red Devils ended in sixth place and missed out on a Champions League berth for the 2022/23 campaign.

Under Ten Hag, Ronaldo has started just one game so far. United had a disappointing start to the season. However, the win over Liverpool has proven to be a catalyst for our recent success.

The Dutch manager has opted to keep the Portuguese star on the bench, instead plating the likes of Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, Anthony Elanga and Antony in the starting XI.
