Diogo Dalot delighted about healthy competition for places in the Manchester United squad

Manchester United right-back Diogo Dalot has stated that there is healthy competition in the team. The summer has seen various fresh faces enter the Old Trafford side’s dressing room.

The Portuguese defender has remained a constant in the starting XI for Erik ten Hag. It has meant that Aaron Wan-Bissaka has been made to warm the bench.

Speaking to the media via Manchester Evening News, Dalot seems to be delighted about the depth in the side. The 23-year-old claims the team is stronger, considering the quality they have in each position.

“When you have good competition, I like to call it health[y] competition. You can see this season we have very good players in each position, which makes us better as a team. We have a lot to learn together, we have a good squad.”

The next few weeks are going to be intense. With the World Cup commencing in November, the football calendar has condensed. As a result, sides have to contest with a congested schedule.

United are involved in four competitions. We have to play on Thursdays most weeks until November. Ten Hag will evidently need every player to avoid fatigue and manage injuries.

While Dalot has been the preferred choice for the right-hand side of the back four, Wan-Bissaka is a decent option to have in the squad. The former Crystal Palace star was the first choice for a long time till the arrival of Ralf Rangnick.

Under the interim boss, Wan-Bissaka fell down in the pecking order. And that trend has continued under Ten Hag, who favours the Portuguese right-back.

While United were disappointing against Brighton & Hove Albion and Brentford, the team have bounced back. Dalot has put in impressive displays against the likes of Liverpool and Arsenal.

United face Real Sociedad next in the UEL. The last four fixtures have seen Ten Hag make just one change to the starting lineup. It remains to be seen whether the gaffer rotates the squad against the Spanish opposition.
