Rio Ferdinand praises Erik ten Hag for the shift in culture at Manchester United
Speaking on his YouTube channel as quoted by Manchester Evening News, Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has praised Red Devils’ manager Erik ten Hag for bringing about a cultural change at the club and has praised the mentality that the Dutchman has imposed in such a short time.
Erik ten Hag was appointed as the Red Devils’ manager at the beginning of the season and the former Ajax manager has been tasked with the momentous task of returning Manchester United to where they belong and making them a European powerhouse again.
The Dutchman’s time at Old Trafford could not have gotten off to a worse start with the Red Devils failing to win their first two games. Man United lost to both Brighton and Brentford but a win over Liverpool set the tone.
Since then, the Red Devils have gone on to win their next three games on the trot, making it four consecutive wins including the Liverpool game. This also included a 3-1 win over league leaders Arsenal.
Ten Hag has gotten the team to play a particular brand of football that the team seems to be settling in. The Dutchman has also seemingly narrowed down on his first choice pairing in central defence with Lisandro Martinez – Raphael Varane seemingly his choice.
Ten Hag has had a pretty decent transfer window to fall back on. The Red Devils have signed Lisandro Martinez, Antony, Casemiro, Tyrell Malacia, Christian Eriksen and Martin Dubravka and most of these players are set to be starters.
Lisandro Martinez and Tyrell Malacia have already made a great start to the season whilst Antony managed to score on his debut against Arsenal. Eriksen has been a revelation for Ten Hag and it is only a matter of time before Casemiro does the same too.
More than all this, Rio Ferdinand has claimed that it is the shift in mentality that has really impressed him from Erik ten Hag.
“I’m really impressed. He’s [Ten Hag’s] come in and the first thing that he showed is that he can get a group of players together. He has discipline. He’s making people aware of their roles and responsibilities. He keeps on talking about, especially after this game, he spoke about standards every day”
