Rio Ferdinand believes Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag has a plan for Jadon Sancho

According to TNT Sports via Youtube (h/t Metro), Rio Ferdinand is of the belief that Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag has a masterplan to get the best out of Jadon Sancho.

The 23-year-old moved to Old Trafford from German giants Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2021 to much potential. However, the Englishman has failed to impress and has fallen well short of expectations.

Sancho has so far made 82 appearances for Man United across all competitions, scoring 12 times and assisting another six. His numbers are significantly poorer than what we have seen him achieve at Dortmund.

Erik ten Hag’s arrival has done little to improve Sancho’s fortunes and the recent spat between the pair could unhinge our season and also perhaps impact the player’s stay at the club.

Ferdinand, rather than take sides is keen to make sense of the situation. The former footballer has given his thoughts on the matter and claimed that there could be more to the issue than what meets the eye.

“The biggest thing for me is understanding why he said that.”

Ferdinand goes on to add that while Sancho is not a first XI regular, Ten Hag has not denied the player minutes on the field. Further adding, there is belief that the Dutchman is trying to entice a positive response from Sancho to turn his fortunes around.

“He’s working out a way how he can trigger something from Jadon to get a positive reaction on the pitch.”

While we would like Ferdinand to be right, Sancho’s response to Ten Hag on social media does not appear to have both men in the same boat. Surely, it is time for Ten Hag now to re-evaluate his approach and shift tactics.

Ten Hag’s man management skills will need some improvement as continues navigating from one crisis to another. It cannot be a case of one size fits all and the Dutchman will do well to cater his tactics to aid every player in need.
