Gary Neville: Manchester United will have to contend with Chelsea and Arsenal for the fourth spot in the Premier League

Manchester United legend Gary Neville believes the Red Devils will be amongst the three clubs, including Chelsea and Arsenal, fighting for the fourth spot in the Premier League this season.

United beat Arsenal 3-1 at Old Trafford. The Manchester-based club were the first side to beat the Gunner this campaign. The North London side’s win streak has come to an end at the hands of the Red Devils.

Speaking on Sky Sports via Express, Neville is of the opinion that Manchester City, Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur will be the top three clubs. And the Red Devils are predicted to struggle for a Champions League berth.

“I think City, Liverpool and Tottenham will finish in the top three. Chelsea, Arsenal and Man United [to battle for fourth].

“You think Liverpool will come good don’t you because of what they’ve done. I think United will struggle to get into the top four personally.”

United have impressed

United got off to a disappointing start in the 2022/23 campaign. The Red Devils lost their first two games against Brighton & Hove Albion and Brentford.

However, the team have made an impressive comeback in the league. We have won four straight games on the trot. And the opponents have included the likes of Liverpool and Arsenal.

However, Neville, who was United’s captain for five years, is not confident in his side getting into the fourth spot. The former Red Devil feels the Gunners and Chelsea are better teams.

“I just think Tottenham and Liverpool and City will, I think it’ll be between Arsenal, Chelsea and United. I just think the other two are slightly better.

“United will have to dig in really deep to win those two games against Arsenal and Liverpool. Liverpool could’ve equalised and Arsenal were good for large parts.”

United sit on 12 points at the moment. The Gunners sit at the top of the table with 15 points. The North London side had a bad start in the previous campaign, losing the first three PL games. After that, however, they managed to almost make it into the top four.

Chelsea and Liverpool are struggling for form as well this season. On the other hand, Erik ten Hag has been able to bring out the best in the Red Devils. The defence, midfield and attack look settled after the initial bump.
