Injury update: Lisandro Martinez substitution just a precaution by Manchester United
According to TyC Sport (Metro), Manchester United star Lisandro Martinez was substituted from the game as a precaution after suffering from a slight abductor injury but is expected to be available when the Red Devils take on Crystal Palace next weekend.
One of the Red Devils’ star signings this summer, Lisandro Martinez has become really impressive for Man United after a shaky start. He has formed a formidable centre-back pairing with Raphael Varane and has really impressed since.
Big things are expected of Lisandro Martinez. The Argentinian centre-back is expected to be the answer to Man United’s defensive woes and if his performances in recent weeks are anything to go by, it is not a surprise.
The 24-year-old centre-back had yet another solid outing in the centre of defence against league leaders Arsenal. However, he had to be substituted off after it looked like Martinez had gotten injured in the aftermath of a clearance.
The talented centre-back was eventually replaced by Harry Maguire who helped the Red Devils see out the game and secure a 3-1 win against rivals Arsenal. There were concerns if the injury sustained by the Argentinian will keep him out for a while.
However, the good news for Erik ten Hag and Manchester United is the fact that Lisandro Martinez is not very serious. It was just a precautionary substitution and Martinez is expected to be back for the Crystal Palace game.
For many seasons now, Man United have had a very shaky defence. Despite David de Gea’s unbelievable performance for the club last season, the defence in front of him let the Red Devils down on numerous occasions.
Whilst it may still be too early to draw any conclusions, there is no doubt that the partnership between Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane is offering a lot of promise. If they can continue on the same vein as they have started off, Man United have a solid defensive partnership in the making.
