Antony is eager to start as Manchester United complete Brazilian star’s signing
Manchester United have completed the signing of Antony from Ajax and the Brazilian is keen to start playing for his new club. The 22-year-old is eager to bring success to Old Trafford.
United have signed Antony for a potential €100 million fee from the Eredivisie champions. The Brazilian has been reunited with former boss Erik ten Hag in Manchester.
Speaking on his move via Manchester Evening News, Antony revealed his excitement about joining the 20-time English league champions.
“This is an incredible moment in my career to be joining one of the most iconic clubs in the world.
“I’m thankful to everyone who has believed in me, especially my family, and all my coaches and team-mates, because I could not have got here without them.”
Antony is a left-footed forward who mostly plays on the right-wing. The 22-year-old was one of the best players in Holland in the last two seasons since arriving in Amsterdam from Sao Paulo.
Under the Dutch manager, the Brazilian developed into a quality player at Ajax. For the Amsterdam-based club, the Brazilian featured in 82 games, scoring 24 goals and providing 22 assists.
Antony can’t wait to get started to work under Ten Hag again. The 22-year-old credits the former Ajax head coach for bringing the best out of him.
“Playing under Erik ten Hag at Ajax was perfect for me and my development. His style of football and coaching brings out the best in me, and I am excited by what he has told me about his plans and ambitions in Manchester.
“My time at Ajax was fantastic and I will always be grateful for the trust they put in me, but now I am ready for the next challenge, and I can’t wait to join my new team-mates and play my part in bringing success to Manchester United.”
Antony had a successful spell at Ajax. He won the Eredivisie twice. The 22-year-old also has a Dutch Cup winner to his name. The Brazilian also has an Olympic gold medal with the national side.
United seemingly needed to add to their attacking ranks this summer. Ten Hag didn’t have the strongest of benches with Anthony Elanga and Alejandro Garnacho as backups. Cristiano Ronaldo evidently wanted a move away. Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial and Jadon Sancho did not have the best of seasons in the previous campaign.
