Borussia Dortmund CEO plays down rumours regarding Manchester United ace Cristiano Ronaldo

Speaking in an interview to @Sky_Jesco as quoted by popular Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano on Twitter, Borussia Dortmund CEO Watzke has played down the rumours linking Manchester United superstar Cristiano Ronaldo to the Bundesliga club.

The CEO did reveal his admiration for the Manchester United superstar and admitted that it would be nice for the player to play at Signal Iduna Park but it does not seem possible at the moment for this deal to happen.

Cristiano Ronaldo has been linked with a move away from Old Trafford throughout this summer, and a move to the Bundesliga could be an option for the star striker. He will also play Champions League football at Dortmund.

Ronaldo joined Manchester United from Juventus at the beginning of last season, returning to the club where he first rose to stardom. This was expected to be a good signing for the Red Devils but it has been rather mixed.

The 37-year-old played 39 times for the Red Devils last season scoring 24 goals and providing three assists across all competitions. These numbers are very good on a separate note, but it did not help the team.

Speaking about the prospect of signing the player, Watzke has played down rumours linking Ronaldo to Dortmund

“I love Cristiano Ronaldo – it’s certainly a charming idea to see Cristiano play at Signal Iduna Park. But there is no contact at all between the parties involved”

It does seem like Ronaldo will stay in Man United as things stand but with over ten days left for the transfer window to shut, there could be changes in the market and the Portuguese could still leave the club.

Erik ten Hag will want a fully motivated Cristiano Ronaldo at his disposal if he stays. Ronaldo can still contribute a lot to the team and it will not be bad for Man United if the Portuguese superstar decides to stay at Old Trafford.

This Ronaldo situation is definitely not favourable for the club. Man United will be hoping to sort it out and concentrate on the football that needs to be played.
