Lazio president Claudio Lotito claims it would take a lot more than £42.4 million to sell Manchester United target Sergej Milinkovic-Savic

Claudio Lotito, the president of Lazio, claims it would take a lot more than £42.4 million to sell Manchester United target Sergej Milinkovic-Savic this summer. The head of the Biancocelesti feels the Serbian is worth more.

The 27-year-old is said to be an option for United this summer in case a deal for Frenkie de Jong fails to materialise. The Red Devils have supposedly tried to hold talks to negotiate the signing of Milinkovic-Savic.

However, speaking to Il Messaggero (h/t Metro), Lotito doesn’t believe the current valuation being touted is enough for Lazio to consider parting ways with their Serbian star. He claims the Seri A side’s business this transfer window is done.

“Milinkovic for €50 million? At that amount, I don’t sell him, he is worth much more. Our market is thus complete and finished.”

The Manchester-based club are in the market for a midfielder to strengthen Erik ten Hag’s squad. The midfield options at the Dutch manager’s disposal include senior stars like Fred, Scott McTominay, Bruno Fernandes and Christian Eriksen.

We boast a good number of youngsters as well in James Garner, Zidane Iqbal and Charlie Savage. But it remains to be seen how much faith Ten Hag puts in them.

United’s midfield requires more

The first game of the new Premier League season against Brighton & Hove Albion saw all of our senior options start. Fred and McTominay started in the midfield alongside Fernandes. The Dutch manager opted to play Eriksen as a centre-forward.

The Brazilian played in the pivot role. The Scotland international was given more freedom to move into the attacking third. The two didn’t have the best of games and fans pointed fingers at them.

Over the years, Fred and McTominay haven’t been able to convince fans of their qualities. Thus, there has been an evident clamouring for more quality in the engine room.

Milinkovic-Savic has established himself as one of the best box-to-box midfielders in Italy. The Serbian has the skill set to be a success at a top club like United. But there’s no guarantee that the Serbian will make his way to Old Trafford.
