Transfer News: Frenkie de Jong given transfer ‘ultimatum’ by Manchester United
According to transfer news from Spanish publication Sport, Frenkie de Jong has reportedly been warned by Manchester United to decide on a transfer to Old Trafford by the end of the week or the team would move on to other targets.
Barcelona and United have been in negotiations for a number of weeks, and while a deal in principle has been reached, not much else appears to have changed since. Despite this, United is still optimistic about completing a move.
Barcelona’s massive financial difficulties are forcing them to think about selling some of their prized possessions this summer. Even though De Jong has stated that he would love to remain at the Nou Camp, he is one of those players who may be pushed out of the club for a substantial fee.
Now it is believed that United have given De Jong until the end of the week whether he wants to transfer to Manchester.
Another significant obstacle is the player’s £17 million deferred wages and bonuses arrangement made during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Frenkie de Jong made the move from Ajax to Barcelona in 2019 and has since excelled for the Spanish club. His performances have been excellent, despite the unwarranted criticism he has received for them.
De Jong can become a superstar in the Premier League when he is at his best. He is perhaps one of the best midfielders in the world. No team can go wrong by signing a player of the Dutchman’s calibre, who is capable of single-handedly influencing a game.

Man United Undoubtedly needs to add reinforcements to their midfield, as it is one of their weaker areas. The Red Devils will need to sign a top-notch midfielder because a handful of midfielders are expected to leave the club this summer.
