Manchester United face strong Barcelona interest for Aston Villa starlet Carney Chukwuemeka

According to BirminghamLive, Manchester United now face strong interest from Barcelona for the services of Aston Villa star Carney Chukwuemeka. His future at Villa Park is surrounded by uncertainty at the moment, which has seen several clubs circle for the midfielder.

Chukwuemeka is in line to become out of contract next summer after rejecting an extension offer from Villa. That has alerted several major clubs across Europe, with Man United, Arsenal, Manchester City and others across the continent being some of the interested parties.

Barca are one such suitor who are targeting the Englishman, having expressed a “serious interest” in securing his signature. It is stated that they could reach an agreement with Chukwuemeka in January and prise him away on a training compensation fee worth just £287,000k when he becomes a free agent.

Blow for Man Utd?

Fortunately, a move to Camp Nou is far from being certain at this moment which does give us some time to make a case for ourselves. Despite their struggles, the Catalans are in a better situation than us right now, which does deal a blow to our chances indeed.

At the same time, there are quite a lot of talented young midfielders at the Blaugrana club, which does raise doubts about whether Chukwuemeka can succeed due to heavy competition. The likes of Pedri, Gavi, Nico Gonzalez and Pablo Torre are just some of the highly-rated prospects in their ranks.

Hence, one could say that perhaps joining us could give Chukwuemeka the best possible chance to succeed at the top but whether he is of the same mindset or not remains to be seen. Striking a deal for the talented 18-year-old would undoubtedly be a great business on our part due to the potential he has shown at such a young age.

It is pretty clear at this point how following a holistic way would be the best solution to ensure long-term success, as is evident from Man City’s case, for example. Using talents from within while balancing it out with superstar signings to plug the holes in the squad should be what we should be striving for moving forward.

Chukwuemeka’s arrival would ensure that we have a wide range of talents to choose from and promote to the first team, raising the level of quality in the process. Hence we must do our best to finalise a move for the young prospect so let’s wait and see whether we can beat Xavi Hernandez’s side in this pursuit.

At the same time, keeping an eye out for the Gunners and Pep Guardiola’s side would be wise to prevent any shock blows on their part. Not to mention, we also need to be wary of the other unknown suitors who are vying for the young Lions’ ace.
