Negotiations are ongoing between Manchester United and PSG for Leandro Paredes

According to Sky Italia journalist Angelo Mangiante on Twitter (h/t The Express), Negotiations between Manchester United and PSG are now “ongoing” regarding a potential sale of Leandro Paredes. His future at Parc des Princes is up in the air at this moment, which has seen him get linked with a move elsewhere.

Paredes is set to leave Paris Saint-Germain in the summer transfer window, with a return to Italy mooted to be a probable outcome. However, that is no longer the only possibility, with Man United currently being in talks with the French giants to discuss a potential move.

The Red Devils are searching the market for midfield additions, and they have struggled to complete a move for Barcelona’s Frenkie de Jong so far. Paredes is considered to be an alternative at this moment, and with Erik ten Hag being frustrated due to the lack of signings, a move could perhaps take place soon enough.

Paredes, an ideal alternative?

Earlier, it was claimed that we had contacted the Ligue 1 champions to get an idea about what it would take to prise away Paredes. Supposedly, the Argentine’s £29.6million valuation is stated to have cooled down our interest, but that could no longer be the case looking at this latest development.

We are close to seeing our pre-season start tomorrow with a friendly against Liverpool, but the issue in midfield is yet to be addressed. That is not ideal as ten Hag needs reinforcements to work with and compensate for the lack of defensive midfield options available at Old Trafford.

Perhaps, we should end our interest in de Jong as he would cost an initial €65million with another €20million in the form of bonuses. We could sign Paredes and save that money to be utilised on other areas as finalising a move for him could be easier since he is in line to depart anyway.

Paredes is a solid option indeed if he is utilised in the right manner rather than being tasked with covering large amounts of ground regularly. However, the concerning factor for us would be the 28-year-old’s admission that he will stay in the French capital in the upcoming season.

With the South American being tied down on a two-year contract, it remains to be seen how he can be convinced to make a switch to the Premier League. That is not the only problem, though, as Juventus are also in the running for the defensive midfielder as of now. Let’s wait and see how our meeting with the Paris-based club would develop moving forward.
