Manchester United face Manchester City in a transfer battle for Hoffenheim star David Raum

According to journalist Jonathan Shrager on Twitter (h/t Manchester Evening News), Manchester United will face off against Manchester City in a battle for the services of Hoffenheim star David Raum in the summer transfer window. He is on the back of an impressive season with his side, which has put him on the radars of several major clubs from Europe.

Man United have already stepped up their interest in Raum by enquiring about his availability with the German side. However, the former will not be handed a free run at the defender as their city rivals, Man City, are also in the mix, with Oleksandr Zinchenko being linked to Everton, Arsenal and West Ham United as of now.

However, the Red Devils would face more obstacles in their pathway as Borussia Dortmund and Tottenham Hotspur are also vying to complete a move for Raum this summer. That paves the way for a stern transfer tussle up ahead, which would make things difficult for those at Old Trafford.

David Raum to join Man Utd?

The left-back is one such area that we are covered in terms of depth, with Luke Shaw and Alex Telles being the options as of now. However, both of them have endured a difficult time last season, which has raised questions on whether Erik ten Hag would demand a new signing in that position.

Then again, with pre-season set to take place moving forward, ten Hag’s demands would probably depend on if Shaw or Telles fails to impress and make a case for themselves in the boss’ plans. Should that happen, Raum would be a great replacement looking at his performances from the previous campaign.

Raum has quickly adapted to life in the Bundesliga, having moved to the PreZero Arena only last summer. He has earned quite a name for himself as an attacking full-back which has helped him earn a spot in the national team as well. His 2.4 key passes per game in the previous season are indicative of the massive technical boost he would bring into our squad should we sign him.

Those who have watched ten Hag’s Ajax would know how crucial the full-back played a role in the boss’ system. Daley Blind, in particular, was used as a left-back, and he was responsible for progressing the ball up front and finding teammates with his ability to pick out his teammates.

Raum could replicate that if the German international’s displays from the last campaign are anything to go by. The 24-year-old also boasts some of the best stats in terms of key passes, crosses, and long balls during that period giving us all the more reason to target him this summer.

However, we would need to deal with the Citizens, although their pursuit of Brighton and Hove Albion star Marc Cucurella may just turn their attention away from Raum. Spurs recently signed Ivan Perisic as well, leaving us with Dortmund as our primary competition in particular as of now.
