Manchester United dealt transfer blow as Brentford open contract talks with Christian Eriksen
According to The Sun, Manchester United have received a transfer blow as Brentford are in talks with Christian Eriksen over a new contract. He has been excellent for his side since joining them in January following the horror cardiac arrest he suffered last summer during the Euro 2020 campaign.
Eriksen had joined the Bees on a short term deal in the winter transfer window. However, they are now eager to keep hold of him on a longer contract and want to reach an agreement over an extension. He is in line to become a free agent this summer which is why they have started talks with him regarding a renewal.
Man United have already expressed their interest in signing the Dane and are monitoring the situation at this moment. They are not alone in this transfer race as Tottenham Hotspur are also plotting to re-sign their former superstar, but their plans could be put to waste by Thomas Frank’s side.
Concerns for Man Utd?
There is no doubt that the 30-year-old can continue to perform at a top-level despite the incident he had suffered the previous summer. His impressive displays for Denmark and Brentford are the perfect examples, having proven the doubters wrong by replicating the same quality he had shown before the cardiac arrest.
Adding the Premier League superstar to our ranks could be crucial in ensuring that we can negate the departure of Paul Pogba this summer. Pogba seems close to joining Juventus on a free transfer ahead of the next season, and replacing him with Eriksen would be a great prospect indeed.
Furthermore, Eriksen would also provide hefty competition to Bruno Fernandes, who had a disappointing campaign last term. The ex-Spurs ace could also push Donny van de Beek to do his best under Erik ten Hag as the Dutchman is set to return from his loan spell at Everton.
Competition, after all, tends to bring the best in players. Luke Shaw’s form when Alex Telles had just joined from FC Porto is one such example.
However, with the Bees having opened negotiations with Eriksen, we would need to raise our efforts if there are active plans to sign him this summer. The attacking midfielder being available for free is a great opportunity that the Red Devils should look to take advantage of as it would reduce the expenses they would incur in their attempt to rebuild the stagnated squad.

While discussions have begun over a renewal, it is not confirmed that the Danish international would continue with Frank’s side moving forward.
Hence, we still have a shot at signing him, but Tottenham would probably look to scupper our plans by using the emotional value of a reunion with the club and Antonio Conte alongside Champions League football.
