Fabrizio Romano provides transfer update on Manchester United star Paul Pogba ahead of impending summer exit

According to football journalist Fabrizio Romano on Twitter, Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba is weighing up his options ahead of the upcoming summer transfer window as he looks to depart his current club at the end of the season.

Pogba is available for free in the summer when his current contract with the Manchester side expires and has thus far shown no indication that he would prefer to stay at the club for a few more years. He looks set to become a free agent, bringing back memories of a similar situation in 2012.

A decade ago, the Frenchman left as a teenager on a Bosman transfer to join Juventus in search of regular game time. The midfielder became a household name in Turin, winning four consecutive Scudetto titles with the Serie A side and also reached the Champions League final in 2015.

He was bought back by the Red Devils in 2016 based on his impressive displays on the pitch for the Bianconeri. However, the World Cup winner now looks destined for yet another free transfer exit in the summer.

A battle between Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain

Romano confirmed that Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain are battling to sign the 29-year-old, with his former club looking keen to reunite with the player once again. The Bianconeri have offered to make him a key player for them, while PSG have provided him with a deal with a better salary package.

Manchester City have also shown interest in the France international, but he has turned down a move to United’s local rivals. Between his current options, Romano said that the player is taking his time with his decision, with talks ongoing between his agents and the two clubs.

It certainly looks like the end of United’s connection with Pogba, with the player set to depart after spending a second spell with the club. He rose through the ranks at the club’s academy, but made his name in Italy with Juventus.

His time in Turin was also far more successful than his time in Manchester, with the player only able to pick up a League Cup and a Europa League trophy at Old Trafford. This pales in comparison to his trophy record in Italy, and also with the French national team.

His return to the Red Devils to begin a second spell brought lofted expectations from him given the kind of success he had at Juventus, but he has failed to meet the same standards at the Theatre of Dreams. He has largely been inconsistent in his performances, while also dealing with various injury niggles.

He is currently out on the sidelines nursing yet another injury, and with only one game of the Premier League season to go, we may have seen the last of Pogba in a United kit. It remains to be seen if he ends up at Juventus or PSG, or if there is yet more late drama to his transfer saga.
