Fabrizio Romano: Real Madrid not pursuing Manchester United star Paul Pogba
According to the Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano on Twitter, Real Madrid are currently not in pursuit of Manchester United star Paul Pogba for a potential move this summer. In fact, Romano added that they are currently focusing on signing AS Monaco star Aurelien Tchouameni at this moment.
It has already been confirmed by Man United that Pogba will be leaving Old Trafford for free in the summer transfer window. That has seen him get linked with a move to the Spanish capital, but those claims have been shut down by this latest news from the transfer guru.
Juventus are also in the fray to sign the French international as of now, having already offered a long contract worth €8million per season net as a guaranteed salary excluding bonuses. Talks are underway between them over the terms of the deal, with a new meeting now scheduled to take place shortly.
Next step for Man Utd?
Even if the 29-year-old had failed to showcase the extent of his full quality regularly for the Red Devils, there is no doubt that his departure would be a massive dent in the squad. He is a world-class central midfielder who is versatile enough to play as a number six as well as a left-midfielder, a position he sometimes played in under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
That is especially the case when Nemanja Matic would also be leaving on a free transfer this summer. As such, the Manchester side must be assessing the market for options right now who can replace Pogba in our ranks moving forward.
We are looking to facilitate a rebuild under Erik ten Hag this summer which means that the management must provide the boss with the right tools to build a strong project. Losing quality stars would not help in that regard, so it is imperative that we find suitable options to replace them ahead of the next season.
It would be wise on the Mancunians’ part to find someone determined to succeed with us and would focus their attention on helping us get out of our current plight. Pogba was excellent for us on occasions but at times, looked like he lacked the motivation to put his 100 per cent in.
