Fabrizio Romano gives Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba update as star hints at wanting to win trophies

As covered by football transfer guru Fabrizio Romano on Twitter, Manchester United star Paul Pogba spoke about his future, hinting at the fact that he wants to win titles and that it has been sad that he has gone trophyless over the last few years.

Currently on national duty with the France national team during the international break was speaking to Téléfoot on his future in football, given that the player is out of contract in the summer and is set to become a free agent at the end of the season.

Romano quoted the Frenchman, who said that he wants to play for something and win trophies, with the current season as well as the last few years proving to be a disappointment. United have now gone five years without winning any silverware.

The last trophy that Pogba won in his career was the World Cup in 2018 with France, but at club level, he has not won a title since the 2016/17 campaign, when he resigned for United after spending four successful years at Juventus.

“The season is not over yet”

His move to Italy made him a household name, with the midfielder winning four consecutive Serie A titles as well as getting his hands on multiple domestic cups. The France international also reached the final of the Champions League but ended up losing it to Barcelona in 2015.

The 29-year-old said that despite the season not being over on paper, it certainly feels like that as the club did not have any more titles to play for in the remaining weeks of the campaign, until the summer. The last trophy we won came under Jose Mourinho in 2017- and we have had three new managers in charge of the club since the Portuguese left Old Trafford.

“The season is not over yet, but almost because we don’t have any more titles to play for.”

After a trophy-laden career in Italy with Juve, the midfielder was expected to lead United to titles as well, when they signed him back in 2016 to bolster our squad and build on the FA Cup that they won in the previous season.

The France star’s debut season in his second spell at Old Trafford ended with us winning the League Cup and UEFA Europa League, but since then, we have not seen any trophies come our way. A Europa League final loss last term was the closest we came to winning any title recently, but we lost the summit clash on penalties to Villarreal.

Cristiano Ronaldo and Raphael Varane were brought in to help the side add experience and pedigree to the squad and inspire the team to victory, but that has not gone according to plan. The recent Champions League exit to Atletico Madrid a few weeks earlier confirmed that we would go yet another season without silverware.

Pogba makes our team better with him in the starting lineup, although he has proven to be inconsistent. That being said, we are stronger with the exit-linked Frenchman within our ranks. As for the player himself, he should look to lead our charge for trophies rather than expect to be a part of a pre-assembled title-winning side. That is what the best players of their generation do.
