Leicester City star Youri Tielemans sends a message on his future amidst Manchester United interest
Leicester City star Youri Tielemans has sent a message regarding his future prospects amidst interest from Manchester United for a potential move in the future. He has been linked with an exit from King Power Stadium as his future has been clouded in uncertain waters.
Man United have focused their primary attention towards midfield as they look to bolster that role in the summer transfer window. Declan Rice is still their number one target, but there are fears that they could lose out on him due to the high valuation and the potential failure to achieve Champions League qualification. Tielemans is another one of the targets, and he has now given further thoughts on his future.
Speaking in an interview with Het Laatste Nieuws (h/t Manchester Evening News), Tielemans has conveyed that he does not get affected by the rumours surrounding his future. He has kept his future options open at this moment, but interestingly enough, the midfielder has mentioned that he wants to play in the Champions League. That could be a hint towards what lies in store for him moving forward.
“I don’t worry about it [speculation]. I want to get the most out of myself this season and finish as high as possible with the team. Of course, I want to play in the Champions League, just like any footballer. Am I ready for a European top club? I’m ready to get the best out of my career. We’ll see what happens next summer, or the summer after that.”
Man Utd given a task?
Perhaps, the Belgian could be giving a hint to the interested parties that he will only join a club that will be in the Champions League. Since we are not currently in the top four places in the Premier League, there is still some ground to cover to make a best case for ourselves.
The 24-year-old is currently tied down by Leicester until 2023, so he could be available at a cut-price deal this summer. That would be a great opportunity for us, but the lack of Champions League football could possibly reduce our chances of acquiring him. That is especially the case since Manchester City have also been linked with the central midfielder.

The midfield is an area where we could see changes after this campaign. Paul Pogba is out of contract this summer, and he could leave us on a free transfer. Donny van de Beek’s future is surrounded by uncertainty, whereas Nemanja Matic would need to be replaced moving forward.
The likes of Fred and Scott McTominay are not good enough to be used without technical players compensating for their deficiencies. Tielemans can be that man, but since the Champions League continues to elude us, we could find it difficult to sign him. Let’s hope that we go on a great run of form from here on out and finish the season in the top four places in the league table.
