Norwich City launch investigation into deleted Instagram post from Manchester United loanee Brandon Williams

According to The Athletic, Norwich City are looking into a now-deleted Instagram post from Manchester United loanee Brandon Williams, after their 4-0 home defeat to West Ham United in the Premier League over the weekend.

Williams was sent to Norwich by his parent club on a season-long loan deal, in order to aid his development and also gain more first-team experience in the Premier League. With Luke Shaw and Alex Telles battling it out for the left-back position, there was no space in the team for the Englishman.

Although the academy star has been a regular at Carrow Road this season, he could not help his team avoid relegation to the Championship. The team remained rooted at the bottom of the league table and has only managed to pick up five wins thus far.

Despite Norwich’s relegated status, Williams can hold up his head high with his performances for the team during the current campaign. Under Dean Smith, he has claimed the left-back position for himself, relegating Dimitris Giannoulis to a role on the bench.

“Easy up Norwich City”

He also seems to have won over the crowd at Carrow Road, with supporters unveiling a banner asking the United loanee to extend his stay at the club beyond the summer. However, his latest actions on social media may yet change that opinion.

In the evening following the West Ham defeat, Williams posted a picture on Instagram giving the middle finger sign, with the post captioned: “What a beautiful day. Easy up Norwich City”. It still remains unclear what he was giving the middle finger to, and the post has since been deleted.

Norwich are now investigating the post and looking into whether there is anything untoward in Williams’ post. Only time will tell if there is any action taken against the player, or they could let him off with a warning.

The club have three more games to play in the Premier League, and will look to end their poor season on a good note. If found guilty, Williams could very well have played his last game for the Canaries and could then return to Old Trafford with a bad taste in his mouth at the end of his loan spell.

The 21-year-old is expected back at United at the end of the season, where he will look forward to establishing himself in the senior side under new manager Erik ten Hag. However, it remains to be seen if the Dutchman has plans for the player in his team next term.

That said, ten Hag may also have different plans in mind for Shaw and Telles. Williams will hope that the Ajax boss has watched him in action for Norwich this season where he has had regular playing time, in order to claim a place in a new-look team in Manchester in the upcoming campaign.
