Transfer News: Hull City set to discuss keeping Manchester United loanee Di’Shon Bernard beyond the summer

According to Hull Live, Manchester United loanee Di’Shon Bernard may see his spell at Hull City extended beyond the summer, as City manager Shota Arveladze revealed upcoming talks with the Premier League club.

The Tigers have eluded relegation from the Championship and are currently 19th in the league table, thanks to the arrival of Arveladze in late January. He replaced Grant McCann as the new manager of the side, after some poor results in the first half of the season.

The club have had a number of loan players in their squad this term, including Bernard, Nathan Baxter, Marcus Forss, and Liam Walsh. These stars are expected to return to their parent clubs in the summer, but there may just be a development on the United loanee.

The Carrington star was sent to City on a season-long deal, where he was starting to make an impression in England’s lower division of football. He was expected to continue his development and then return to Old Trafford at the end of the campaign.

“They’re coming especially for him”

After a decent start to life at the MKM Stadium, the 21-year-old found himself relegated to the bench in the second half of the season since Arveladze took over towards the end of the winter transfer window. In fact, the defender’s last start for his current side came in the loss to Barnsley in late February.

Despite being reduced to a substitute role, Bernard could yet still continue his career at City after Arveladze confirmed that he was scheduled to have a meeting with United over the player’s future. The Georgian mentioned that the English giants were coming especially for the central defender.

“The loan players will definitely go back because they have to go back, that’s what I have to say. I will have a meeting with Manchester United, they’re coming especially for him.”

It certainly is curious to see why the manager would opt to keep the Red Devils loanee for longer, despite not utilising him efficiently. Bernard has been a part-time player at best, but perhaps Arveladze sees potential in him to continue his development at City.

It will be the former Trabzonspor manager’s maiden full campaign with the MKM Stadium outfit, and he will be aiming for a better finish in the points table than the 2021/22 season. After the meeting with United, perhaps he could have Bernard by his side to fulfil that aim as well.

As yet, it is not known whether the Tigers are planning to discuss a permanent transfer or an extended loan spell with the Manchester side, but that could be revealed in due time. For now, the academy star himself may be patiently waiting to see what the future holds for him.

The Old Trafford outfit are also expecting changes in their squad in the summer, as Erik ten Hag arrives from Ajax Amsterdam to take over as the new permanent manager of the side. Only time will tell if Bernard will be turning out in the Championship or the Premier League next term, especially if the Dutchman is keen to keep him.
