Transfer News: Juventus not interested in Manchester United star Nemanja Matic
According to the Italian news outlet Calciomercato.it (h/t Manchester Evening News), Juventus are not interested in securing the signature of Manchester United star Nemanja Matic in the summer transfer window. He is set to leave Theatre of Dreams at the end of the current campaign, which makes it important to find an appropriate replacement.
Matic is nearing the end of his current contract this summer, and he has already confirmed that he will depart Man United on a free transfer. Previously, he was heavily linked with a move to join Juve after this season, but that seems to be not the case following this latest update.
It is now claimed that the Bianconeri are not at all interested in signing the Serbian at the end of this term. Since the holding midfielder is bound to leave the Red Devils, the latter must be ready to find a suitable replacement since they do not have any other natural alternatives in their squad.
Can Man Utd replace Matic?
It is a shocking sight to see that the 33-year-old has no natural replacements in our ranks already at this point. After all, Matic has been nearing the end of his playing career, so the Manchester club should have realised the need to replace him and found an alternative to facilitate a transitional phase.
However, we would now be left with no natural defensive midfielders when the former Chelsea man eventually leaves this summer. Fred and Scott McTominay can deputise in that role, but they can use competition and can arguably be upgraded upon.
Even though Matic is well past his prime, there have been many times when he has provided us with the right balance in midfield. Instability at the centre of the pitch has been an issue that has affected us since last season, but the management failed to address the problem.
We are bound to face a dire situation when the Serbian international leaves for free this summer. However, it seems that the Allianz Stadium may not be his next destination if this latest piece of information is to be believed.
Fans would wish Matic to have a great end to his playing career for everything he has done for the club in the past. With Erik ten Hag set to join us after this campaign, let’s hope that the Red Devils will be equipped enough to deal with the situation this summer.

Maybe, just maybe, this is the chance for Donny van de Beek to return from Everton and find a place for himself in our starting XI. But whether he has enough defensive ability to act as a number 6 is something that can only be judged in a better way once fans start to see him play in that position.
