Manchester United told how Sir Alex Ferguson would have reacted to Paul Pogba contract situation

Former Manchester United striker Louis Saha has mentioned how Sir Alex Ferguson would have reacted to the speculation regarding the contract situation of Paul Pogba. The latter has been subjected to rumours over the last few months due to the uncertainty regarding his future at Old Trafford.

Pogba will see his current contract with Man United come to an end in the summer transfer window. That has caused rumours to fly around all the time as the midfielder could sign a pre-contract agreement with foreign clubs if he has plans to move elsewhere. Saha, who played under the Red Devils shirt between 2004 and 2008, chipped in with his own thoughts.

Speaking in an interview with The Express and William Hill, the 43-year-old has conveyed that Ferguson would not take such situations kindly as it does not suit his way of thinking. He added that the Manchester legend would have hit out at these talks and the way they have been conducted in public.

“Sir Alex Ferguson had a different type of communication – he would have struggled with all these situations around the players. He would not have accepted this – he would have snapped. Communication is not under the control of the club. It’s down to the players’ agents, the players themselves. They talk – they have their own platforms. That’s the situation and the problem – you can’t fight it.”

Could not agree more

These words can also be applied to the various other situations that have unravelled in recent times. Such matters should be reserved behind the scenes rather than taking it to the public as it would only harm the club’s interest in the process. Moreover, that also indicates professionalism which has not been the case at this instant.

We all know how Mino Raiola, the 28-year-old’s agent, talks to the media about his client while taking shots at us in the process. His strained relationship with us has been a long-standing issue that falls under this example. The recent antics of Jesse Lingard and Anthony Martial on their respective social media handle adds to the list.

It is baffling how we have to deal with such issues when our focus should be purely on on-the-pitch performances. Any problems should be addressed directly with the clubs instead of these methods. The France international’s situation is also the same as Raiola has talked about the contract multiple times to these media.

The central midfielder could easily have taken a firm stance by asking Raiola not to engage in such talks. But that has not been the case which could explain why he is heavily linked with an exit next summer. Preventing such baggage would create a healthy environment inside the club, so the board should take note of Saha’s words. Whether that will be the case or not remains to be seen.
