Tony Cascarino reveals the moment Sir Alex Ferguson decided to sell Paul Pogba
Speaking in an interview to Bobo TV (h/t Mirror), former Italian striker Antonio Cassano revealed some inside information as to what made the then Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson sell Paul Pogba.
Paul Pogba joined Manchester United as a 16-year-old in 2009. After a couple of seasons with the developmental team, he made 3 appearances for the senior side in the 2011-12 season.
However, things took a bad turn when his agent Mino Raiola approached Sir Alex. He asked the Scotsman for a high amount of money to get Pogba to sign a contract with the club.
This was before Pogba had made his debut for the Red Devils. Cassano then says that Ferguson asked Raiola if he knew what kind of a player Pogba was; Raiola did not care to answer.
He made it clear that the Frenchman would leave the club if the demands were not met. And Ferguson did not flinch. (h/t Mirror)
“Without batting an eye, Ferguson ruled that Pogba could also go away.”
The former United manager has never been a fan of Raiola, to begin with. Ferguson has allegedly described the agent as a “s***bag” in the past.
Current United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has also faced troubles with Raiola. This reached a tipping point last month when the agent revealed that Pogba is unhappy and wants to leave Manchester United.
What made the announcement even more controversial was that it was on the eve of United’s do-or-die UEFA Champions League game against RB Leipzig.
