Transfer Update: Journalist claims Paul Pogba could stay at Manchester United in January transfer window

Speaking in an interview, via Football Fancast, as quoted by the Manchester Evening News, Sky Sports journalist Ben Ransom has hinted that Paul Pogba could stay at Manchester United beyond the January transfer window.

It has been quite a while since the Frenchman has stepped onto the pitch. An injury during the international break in October has kept him out of action until but not out of the newspapers. This is because the midfielder is out of contract in the summer and is yet to pen an extension.

Man United could cut their losses short and garner a cut-price fee for him in January, but that does not seem to be the case. Real Madrid, PSG, and Juventus are interested in his signature, but they might perhaps have to wait until the end of the season.

Sky Sports journalist Ben Ransom recently revealed that since Pogba is not expected to return to action for multiple weeks, it suggests that his future might be resolved in the summer rather than in January.

“Pogba I am sure, and Mino Raiola, I am sure, will be plotting his future, but at the moment, it is too early for Ralf Rangnick to say what is going to happen this month.

“Given the fact that we are not expecting Pogba to re-join full training for another couple of weeks – another couple of weeks for him to be match fit – you would suggest that points to something being resolved in the summer instead.”

Pogba to leave as a free agent?

It would bode well for us if the French international leaves the club in the summer. Our midfield performances have been dire in recent weeks, and the former Juventus star’s absence can be felt now. There is little to no creativity from the midfield line, something Pogba could help with, as evidenced by his seven league assists in the opening four games of the campaign.

Moreover, if the 28-year-old can return next month, he could feature in the UCL games. The Red Devils have not reached the semi-final of the competition for over a decade now. Pogba could become a hero at his boyhood club if he manages to secure European glory for us this term.

Additionally, it makes little sense to let him leave in January because we can use his quality and availability in the near future, despite this potentially being our last chance to secure a fee for him. It is also important to note that he can sign a pre-contract with any foreign club this month, but until then, Man United could persuade him to sign a new deal.

Thus, there are several alternatives for his future, but until the end of the season, he is our player. Once he returns from injury, Ralf Rangnick would be hoping to bed him into the process as we look to secure a Top 4 spot and try to achieve our ambitions in the Champions League.

It remains to be seen whether the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner with France plays in a defensive double pivot with either Scott McTominay or Fred, or if he is deployed in a more advanced position akin to what Jadon Sancho and Bruno Fernandes play in right now.
