Transfer News: Newcastle eyeing Manchester United star Donny van de Beek
According to transfer news from the Telegraph, Newcastle United are looking to test Manchester United and their resolve in keeping hold of Donny van de Beek.
Donny van de Beek has been somewhat of a fallen star at Manchester United. The Dutch midfielder has enjoyed a poor spell at Old Trafford, managing only 48 appearances across all competitions for the Red Devils.
A forgotten man under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. the arrival of Ralf Rangnick hasn’t done Van de Beek any favours. The 24-year-old is yet to start a Premier League match under the German manager and has only made one full game appearance in the Champions League against Young Boys.
Even though a future with the Red Devils is beginning to look like a distant dream for Van de Beek, Rangnick emphasized that the club should keep hold of the player until the end of the season. The German manager even lauded the Netherlands international for showing considerable effort in the training sessions.
However, Newcastle understands Van de Beek’s situation and is eyeing to take advantage of it. It is believed that the Magpies are looking to bolster their midfield to prevent a Premier League relegation and are looking for options. Eddie Howe’s team wants to test the Red Devils’ transfer approach regarding the former Ajax star.
Manchester United’s season is beginning to get disappointing. Even though Red Devils completed the signature of some big stars in the summer, the coaching hierarchy has failed to put together a competitive team.
On the brighter side of things, Fred and Scott McTominay have flourished under the German manager. However, the absence of Paul Pogba has provided a massive blow in the creative sector. Red Devils requires some player who can make the difference in attacking transition and have the ability to beat opposing defenders with sleek passes.
