Transfer Update: Sevilla chief Monchi prioritizes January move for Manchester United star Anthony Martial

According to L’Equipe (h/t The Mirror), Sevilla chief Monchi has prioritized the transfer of Manchester United ace Anthony Martial in January.

The Spanish club has done well in La Liga this season. They remain 8 points adrift of leaders Real Madrid, albeit they have a game in hand. They want to give Los Blancos a real run for the title, courtesy of which they are prioritizing a move for Martial.

The 25-year-old informed Ralf Rangnick of his intentions to leave in January. Rangnick has made it clear that a player shall be sold only if it suits the interests of the club. So far, Sevilla have made an offer that will see them pay half of the player’s £150k-per-week wages, which has been turned down by the Red Devils.

But this has apparently not disheartened the Spanish club’s chief, Monchi. He is determined to lure the French international to Spain in January. Man United, in turn, are keen on landing a sizeable fee for their player’s services.

Could Sevilla complete a move for Martial in January?

The Spanish outfit is determined to seal a signature, but Man United are unlikely to budge. The centre-forward has a contract at Old Trafford until 2024, and we are under no obligation to conduct any deal that would hinder the progress of our squad mid-season.

Moreover, Victor Lindelof tested positive for Covid-19 recently. If these concerns affect our frontline too, Rangnick would be wise to not let Martial seal a move in January, irrespective of the size of the offer from any prospective suitor.

Additionally, with the workload likely to increase in the coming months, squad depth shall be a crucial factor. The gaffer could be looking to rotate, handing the much-needed game time to Les Bleus ace.

Alternatively, if we do not encounter any injury or Covid-19 issues in the coming weeks and Sevilla are ready to stump up a reasonable fee, losing Martial may not be a massive blow for us. When fit, we have sufficient talent in the ranks, especially going forward.

Thus, a potential deal depends upon some key elements. United clearly want Sevilla to table a better offer if they are serious about the move and Rangnick has already stated that the club will look at its own priorities before they can allow the ex-AS Monaco a way out of Old Trafford.

It remains to be seen what happens next month, but this feels like the beginning of the end of the Anthony Martial saga at Manchester United.
