Transfer Update: Sevilla could divert their attention from Manchester United ace Anthony Martial over salary stance
According to Mundo Deportivo (h/t The Sun), Sevilla might pull out of a move for Manchester United Anthony Martial as they might not be able to afford him.
The French international has had a largely uncertain month. He has not played in any game for the club, and his agent made it clear that he wishes to leave in January. Sevilla have since made an effort to sign him, but it has been half-hearted. They are not willing to pay a loan fee and are only open to providing him with half his wages.
Understandably, Man United have rejected this approach. The Red Devils want any future suitor of the 25-year-old to pay his entire wages and provide a loan fee. This could now become a problem since the Spanish outfit have very little room to increase their offer.
In fact, if things remain the same, they fear being priced out of a potential move for the player. It is also suggested that they could end their interest in the former AS Monaco star and divert their attention towards Tottenham Hotspur ace Steven Bergwijn.
Should Man United let Martial join Sevilla on their terms?
Absolutely not. Martial may have informed Rangnick about his willingness to not play for us anymore, but if he wishes to seal an exit, he shall have to do so on our terms. Moreover, Man United are not demanding anything out of the ordinary.
If the Frenchman does wish to play for another club, there is no reason for the Red Devils to be paying even a small part of his wages, let alone half of it. Moreover, a loan fee is also very common in recent as we need to financially profit out of the deal.
Letting him join Sevilla on their terms would set a bad image of the club and an even worse precedent. No player is bigger than the club, and the rules are not going to change for the Les Bleus international.

Getting him off the wage bill is an attractive prospect since we could then focus on some of our transfer targets. But letting the 25-year-old leave without any return and paying half his wages would be an unwise decision. Man United could still use him in the coming months as we could be competing on three fronts from February. Thus, it remains to be seen whether Martial gets his desired move next month.
