Transfer News: Antony Martial is keen to leave Manchester United in the January window
According to Sky Sports News (h/t The Daily Mail), Manchester United star Anthony Martial is considering his options amidst a lack of regular playing time at Old Trafford.
The Frenchman, when on form, is one of the Red Devils’ best players. However, he has failed to showcase his best on a regular basis. This has seen him fail to reach his potential and denied a regular spot in the club’s starting XI.
Martial has been limited to just two Premier League starts all season. While he has come off the bench in five more clashes, there has been little to suggest that he can turn his fortunes around. Having scored just one goal so far this season, it is fair to say that the 26-year-old has massively underperformed.
Competition for a starting spot, especially in attack, is fierce at the Theatre of Dreams. The arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo and Jadon Sancho coupled with an ever-improving Mason Greenwood has not made Martial’s task any easier.
However, rather than step up his own game and make a case for himself, he appears to be looking at other options. The player’s stance was revealed by his agent, Philippe Lamboley who gave a clear answer regarding the striker’s stance.
“Anthony wishes to leave the club in January.”
Lamboley goes on to add that the Frenchman is not keen to stay put, despite the recent change in management. The agent will meet with Red Devils officials soon regarding the issue. Martial’s motivation appears to be the search for regular football, something that is far from guaranteed at Old Trafford.
“He just needs to play. He doesn’t want to stay in January and I will speak to the club soon.”
Martial is currently out with a knee injury and has not featured under Ralf Rangnick. With a future under the German far from guaranteed, maybe a look elsewhere is his best option.

The Frenchman is not short of suitors with the likes of Barcelona and Juventus among his suitors. Martial has three years left on his contract at Old Trafford and it remains to be seen what Man United decide to do. Given his recent performances, maybe a parting of the ways is indeed the best way forward.
As for us, we have the options in our squad to make up for his potential absence. Anthony Elanga’s slow but steady rise can also be a very positive sign for the club if he goes on to follow in the footsteps of Rashford and Greenwood.
