Manchester United star Marcus Rashford admits he will never lose any respect for former boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer
According to BBC Sport One, Manchester United star Marcus Rashford has admitted that he will always retain respect for former Red Devils manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
The Norwegian’s reign at Old Trafford came to an inglorious end following the 4-1 loss against Watford at Vicarage Road. The 48-year-old did bring a sense of stability to the club following the chaotic final few months under Jose Mourinho.
Solskjaer, however, failed to deliver a trophy during his nearly three-year spell at the Theatre of Dreams. While a certain section of the fans will not continue to hold that against him, his players are proving more loyal.
A shared responsibility
Rashford has now joined Bruno Fernandes in claiming that the players hold equal responsibility for Solskjaer’s failed spell at Man United as the man himself. The English international continues to hold his former manager in great esteem despite him being relieved of his duties earlier this month.
“For me, the respect that he deserves is huge, not just from us (Man United players), but the fans as well. I mention when Bruno was on the pitch, telling the fans it is not just him (Ole Gunnar Solskjaer), it’s all of us. that’s important as well.”
Solskjaer’s playing days are long behind him and he cannot be expected to step off the sidelines and make a difference on the pitch. The responsibility to bring his footballing vision to life was on the players he put out on the pitch week in, week out. The fact is not lost on Rashford, who believes the players have the responsibility of eking out results on the pitch.
“The manager can’t play for us. He can set us up in the best way that he thinks possible and our job is to do those instructions and do what we’re good at as well, and try and win games.”
Back with a vengeance?
While Solskjaer’s stint may have ended in flames, the least we as fans can do is show him some respect. A fine player for the club, his managerial stint was largely a failure. He cannot be accused of not giving it his all and was ultimately caught out for being out of his depth.
The Norwegian can be accused of having the club’s best interests at heart. Not pulling the plug on him earlier is a sign of the rot at the heart of the club. Hopefully, with the likes of Ralf Rangnick now set to come in, a new dawn beckons at Old Trafford
Rashford’s words show that players do share some semblance of responsibility for what happened to Solskjaer. Hopefully, they will now hit back with a vengeance and channel the frustration into securing a trophy or two.

Rashford was among the finest players at the club under Solskjaer. He will now hope to take his game to newer heights under new management. Solskjaer will always have a place in our hearts for all the good he has done at Man United.
However, to call his managerial stint a success would be blind faith. While fans are welcome to such thoughts, players have to be professional and show grace and dignity. Rashford has done just that.
