Transfer News: AS Roma accelerate their interest in signing Manchester United defender Diogo Dalot
According to Italian publication Corriere dello Sport (h/t Manchester Evening News), Serie A Club AS Roma have accelerated their pursuit for Manchester United wing-back Diogo Dalot.
The 22-year-old right-back was signed by the Red Devils under the managerial supervision of former head coach Jose Mourinho. The Portuguese professional footballer has made 41 appearances for the Red Devils during which time he has scored 1 goal and provided 3 assists across all competitions.
Dalot has mostly been used as a backup option to Aaron Wan-Bissaka who has cemented his place in the right wing-back role. The young defender is being linked with a move to the Giallorossi which could reunite him with the Portuguese manager. The Italian club are believed to have further pushed their effort to sign the young defender.
The youngster, who arrived at Old Trafford in 2018, is struggling to find a regular starting spot in this squad under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. The former Porto player has played less than 90 minutes in the Premier League this season. The 22-year-old spent last season on loan at AC Milan. He played 33 matches across all competitions for the Rossoneri during which he scored 2 goals and provided 3 assists.
There may be a significant amount of pressure under Ole, especially with the kind of inconsistencies that the Red Devils have had to face in recent weeks. Man United play across different competitions in England and Europe and would have to rely on their squad depth if they are to make any substantial progress.

Losing Dalot could be a blow due to the lack of options available should Wan-Bissaka not be available for a longer period of time. At the same time, the lack of quality and game time and a chance to reunite with a world-class manager like Jose is also a possibility for the youngster with gametime hard to come by at Old Trafford.
With the Italian outfit pushing even harder for a transfer, it wouldn’t be audacious to say that the club should prepare itself aptly for the departure of the right-back.
