Roy Keane instructs Manchester United star Bruno Fernandes to develop two key traits
Speaking to Sky Sports (h/t Manchester Evening News), Roy Keane believes Manchester United star Bruno Fernandes needs to show more character and personality during games.
The Red Devils lost their fourth league of the season on the weekend as Man City outplayed Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men at Old Trafford. Although the performances of several stars was off-key on the night, Bruno Fernandes too had a rare howler.
The Portuguese midfielder has been sensational since joining in January 2020 but has shifted to a deeper role this season. But despite the position change, he has managed to contribute to 12 goals in 16 appearances this campaign.
However, things did not click for him against the reigning Premier League champions on the weekend. Roy Keane has now advised that he would like to see some personality and character from the 27-year-old. Keane told Sky Sports (h/t Manchester Evening News):
“There’s no doubting Fernandes’ quality, we’ve seen that in the last week at Tottenham, his movement for the goal in midweek in the Champions League was absolutely fantastic. I think he’s an unbelievably brilliant player.
“The only thing I want to see more from him in certain games when Manchester United might be under the cosh is show some more personality, show some more character, particularly when they’re out of possession…That’s where you need to see his character and personality and not be throwing his arms about. But talent-wise, fantastic.”

The playmaker has cut a frustrated figure in recent weeks, particularly when we have conceded first this season. Come-backs have been a feature of our game this term, but the Portuguese international has often needed to run the hardest yards to create something meaningful for the frontline.
However, given that the club are going through a tough period right now, it might be time the attacking midfielder leads the team from the front and assumes a greater role in the proceedings.
