UEFA hit Manchester United with a double penalty thanks to fans’ antics in the Champions League

According to Manchester Evening News, Manchester United have been fined by UEFA after being found guilty of two charges in their UEFA Champions League clash against Villarreal.

The Red Devils endured a difficult night against the reigning Europa League holders and had to rely on a late Cristiano Ronaldo goal to win the game.

The number seven revelled in the celebrations with United fans and was also joined in by a pitch invader. The Red Devil fans were fined for that and also for throwing objects.

UEFA have fined United on both counts. The club will need to pay €3,375 for the throwing of objects and a further €5,000 for the pitch invasion. Both the fines have to be paid within 90 days.

To make life more difficult for the club, another fan invaded the pitch recently in our 3-2 comeback win against Atalanta. Given the circumstances, it is understandable why certain fans let their emotions get the better of them. Whether UEFA will understand the matter is debatable.

The comeback win was a welcome relief to a side struggling for consistency. The Red Devils did well to claw themselves out of the hole and now occupy the first spot in their Champions League group.

While both of our wins in the competition have been nerve-wracking, it will count for little unless we qualify for the next round. While we are yet to hit top form, once we get to the knockout ties, it is anybody’s game.
