Manchester United joined by Liverpool in the race to secure a transfer for Lazio ace Sergej Milinkovic-Savic
According to Calciomercato (h/t The Sun), Liverpool have joined a long list of clubs, including Manchester United, in the race to secure a transfer for Lazio star Sergej Milinkovic-Savic.
The 26-year-old has been claimed to be one of the best midfielders in the Italian league for several years now and his 257 appearances for Lazio are a good indicator of that. In the same period, the central midfielder has knocked in 40 goals and provided a further 50 assists.
This season, the Serbian international has provided 5 goal contributions in 8 appearances and is also a huge reason why the Serie A club are just a point off the Top 4.
Understandably so, the midfielder has garnered interest from several clubs, with Manchester United said to have ‘reignited’ their interest earlier this summer. In fact, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been keen on teaming up the Lazio ace with Bruno Fernandes and Paul Pogba.
His contract at the Italian outfit runs until 2024, and they are thought to be valuing him at £59million. While it would be as simple as paying the money upfront, many clubs are keen on doing so.
Liverpool to seal a deal for Milinkovic-Savic ahead of United?
Liverpool are the latest club to be linked with the Serb as they eye him as a perfect replacement for Georginio Wijnaldum, who left to join Paris Saint-Germain in the summer.

Additionally, Chelsea, PSG, Tottenham Hotspur, Juventus, Inter Milan, and Real Madrid are also interested in the 26-year-old. Thus, it will take all of United’s efforts to lure him out Lazio and sign for the Old Trafford outfit.
With Paul Pogba uncertain about his long-term future at the club, signing a midfielder who is likely to hit his peak years in football will be a good move. There is a need for quality in the club’s midfield line–something Milinkovic-Savic could certainly provide if he is given the opportunity to do so.
