Sergej Milinkovic-Savic happy at Lazio amidst links to Manchester United
Manchester United have been linked with Sergej Milinkovic-Savic over the years. However, the midfielder is not bothered by the talks surrounding his future at Lazio, with the midfielder still in the Red Devils’ sights.
The Serbian joined the Serie A outfit in 2015. Since then, the 27-year-old has developed into one of the finest midfielders in the world.
Speaking via Football Italia (h/t Manchester Evening News), Savic is content about being at Lazio after speculations around him every year. The 27-year-old is happy at Le Aquile.
“It was the same as every other summer. You lot (media) always spoke about different clubs and then I started a new season with Lazio.
“I don’t know what to tell you about the transfer market, that’s for my agents and the club to think about. I am here with a smile on my face and I’m happy.”
Milinkovic-Savic had one of his best seasons with Lazio in the Serie A in the 2021/22 campaign. The Serbian featured 37 times for Le Aquile in the league, scoring 11 goals and providing 11 assists.
United were seemingly looking for quality additions to the side in the summer. The Red Devils’ options in the middle of the park had evidently weakened with the departure of Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic.
The France international was the one who brought flair to United’s engine room. Pogba provided creativity to the team from the middle of the park and also contributed with some goals.
United made two additions to the midfield during the transfer window. Christian Eriksen signed as a free agent. The Danish national had a decent short spell with Brentford before making his move to Old Trafford.
Erik ten Hag was also afforded the signature of Casemiro. The Brazilian arrived from Real Madrid in a big money deal. The 30-year-old is amongst the world’s best defensive midfielders. Other options at the gaffer’s disposal include Bruno Fernandes, Scott McTominay, Fred and Donny van de Beek.
