Man United legend claims it is not the right time to sack Solskjaer following Everton draw

Rio Ferdinand claims Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer should not be sacked despite frustrating Everton performance

Speaking on the YouTube channel ‘FIVE’ (h/t Metro), Rio Ferdinand has claimed that it is not the right time to sack Ole Gunnar Solskjaer from the Manchester United job despite the poor performance against Everton.

The Old Trafford outfit were held to a 1-1 draw at home by Everton on Saturday, and there were a lot of questions regarding the team selection. Star summer signing Cristiano Ronaldo was dropped despite scoring the winner against Villarreal in mid-week.

Jadon Sancho and Paul Pogba also failed to make the XI. Although all three made their way into the team in the second half, they could not influence the game, and the Red Devils dropped two points. This would be a concern, especially after losing against Aston Villa at home last week, and Solskjaer must be under severe pressure now.

However, Rio Ferdinand has now backed his former United teammate and has claimed that this is not the right time to sack him. Ferdinand told YouTube channel ‘FIVE’ (h/t The Metro):

‘Normally you’ve got another game on Tuesday or Wednesday in the Cup or in Europe, you can get that game out of your system, but it’s two weeks now, they have to go away with international teams, come back,’

‘One thing I would say – it’s not the time to panic. This isn’t a time to start calling for Ole’s head etc. because they are still within touching distance at the top, they’ve still got an opportunity to mount a threat and contend for the league.’

The Norwegian boss suffered another blow last month after the club were knocked out of the EFL Cup.

Although United remain favourites to top their Champions League group, the two games against Atalanta post the international break could be a huge difference-maker and might also influence Solskjaer’s future at the club.
